Fumus et Ratio (Smoke and Reason) exists for the formation of Catholic gentlemen. We gather to think clearly, to pray in community, to enjoy the company of friends, and to recover the lost art of unhurried conversation. The cigar is not the point; it is a trojan horse for true socialization free from distractions. The Fumus man is a man who, by God’s grace, becomes more himself in the company of others striving for the same.

Our name is taken from the encyclical Fides et Ratio of Pope St. John Paul II, in which the Holy Father reminds the Church that faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth. The cigar is the occasion; the friendship of men in pursuit of truth is the end.

We help men grow in virtue, community, and class through high-quality events, renowned Catholic speakers, and premium cigars. Our common life rests upon three pillars: Spiritus, Sapientia, and Fraternitas: Spirit, Wisdom, and Brotherhood. Man is by nature a relational animal, and we are a community of men striving to make one another holier and happier.
